The ATMLab of the Chair of Flight Guidance and Air Transport was designed by students and employees of the Chair and opened for use in teaching and research in October 2012. (see ATMLab Imagetrailer). It complements the existing simulation facilities of the department as a multi-user airplane ATC simulator and primarily serves to carry out teaching tasks in the courses Practice of Flight Guidance - classic/modern, Practice of Flight Operations and Flight Guidance as well as practical exercise units within the course Aviation Psychology of the Department of Industrial, Engineering and Organizational Psychology.

Furthermore, events for aviation enthusiasts take place several times a year, such as the Long Night of Sciences or the Girls' Day of the TU Berlin.

The main component of the simulator is a network consisting of several fully equipped cockpit positions and six fully ATC positions. The simulated aircraft type is an Airbus A320 and is therefore similar in operation to the simulated aircraft type of the specialist AARES simulator (Airbus A330). All working positions are connected to virtual airspace and a voice radio network. Within the network, students can experience the common use of airspace and thus significantly increase their learned skills in radio procedures, on-board and ground procedures (ATC).

The use of the simulation network with high-quality equipped working positions enables the operational switching of human-machine interaction in an air traffic system with several airspace users and controllers. Theoretically acquired knowledge also from other courses of the subject area can be experienced and experienced here in practice.
