Software tool development for Fuel vs. Oxygen considerations

Project aim

There already exists a tool for oxygen calculations at Airbus Deutschland GmbH to calculate the number of oxygen bottles are nessessary for several decent profiles. The special optimisation and calculation of performance is not possible. The aim of this project was therefore to develop a tool that calculate the optimum ratio of fuel vs. oxygen consumption and determines the optimum descent profile for an aircraft, also under economic aspects.

Project despription

Lupe

A user interface that allows an iterative optimization calculation, was developed using MATLAB software. The A340-600 was choosen, with four different oxygen systems for the cabin. For calculation the L888 route and alternates, ARINC 424 data and a digital elevation model in MATLAB were choosen. Data for the performance and other conditions were taken from the flight manuals (FCOM, etc.). The detailed calculation of oxygen available was provided by Airbus.
Variational calculations and the functionality of the tools could be presented at Airbus in Hamburg Finkenwerder.
